Ireland
Ireland's coin history dates back to 995, when the first coins were minted in Dublin under King Sitric. These coins were local copies of English issues. Later, under Henry VIII, the harp was introduced on Irish coins. After Ireland gained independence in the 20th century, new coins were designed featuring animals and birds on the reverse.
The Irish pound was the official currency from 1928 until it was replaced by the euro in 2002.
