German Empire Coins

The German Empire, spanning from 1871 to 1918, was a significant period in German numismatic history. With Wilhelm I. proclaiming the empire, the Gold Mark was introduced as a common currency, based on the gold standard, bringing stability to trade.

The coins of the empire are characterized by their diversity. They were minted in various mints and often feature the portraits of the rulers or their coats of arms. Notably, the gold coins in denominations of 5, 10, and 20 Marks are made of 900 fine gold.

Wilhelm II., who ruled from 1888 to 1918, is depicted on many coins. His coins, particularly the 20 Mark gold coin, are highly sought after by collectors.
