Corvey Abbey

Corvey Abbey, founded in 822, was a significant cultural and economic center in medieval Germany. In 833, it received the first minting right in the East Frankish Empire from Emperor Louis the Pious. Initially, denarii (pennies) were minted according to the imperial type, later developing into a unique mint type. Besides Corvey, the abbey also had minting rights in Marsberg and Meppen.

Corvey was also an important center of education and mining. The abbey minted silver, bronze, and gold coins. The last minting of copper coins occurred in 1787.

Silver coins: Pennies, often featuring images of abbots or saints like St. Vitus.
Copper coins: 2 and 4 pfennigs.
Gold coins: Rare, mostly for special occasions.
